Leadership and Liberty is our latest book which teaches how to lead a country, a business, yourself and ensure freedom for all. The following story violates nearly every principle that Chris Brady and I teach in our book. This is the most amazing of stories from a 30 plus year former diamond in Amway. Doug Wead has written best selling books, been an advisor to a President of the USA, and spoke to millions of people as an icon in the Network Marketing field over the years. When Doug Wead speaks people listen. Mr. Wead is another former diamond who has spoken out against Amway's intimidational business practices. I have spoken out previously on Amway's practices, but even I am in disbelief over Doug's recent revelations. When will Rich DeVos get involved and fire every corporate bureaucrat involved? The legacy of Rich and Jay & Amway are at stake with millions of current and former IBO's waiting to see someone clean house. Here is the link to the original article. Please pray for Amway to do the right thing. God Bless, Orrin Woodward
On a trip to Russia last October my translator told me about an angry telephone call from one of the local leaders set up by the Amway Corporation. This particular person is a friend whom I admire. But I was now with XanGo, a different company.
According to my translator, he was furious, huffing and puffing.Someone from the corporation had called him to say that I was contacting his Amway leaders, trying to recruit them into XanGo. “Doesn’t Doug Wead know that he is being followed by Amway Security everywhere he goes?” the leader told my translator, “Isn’t Doug Wead afraid of getting beaten up? You tell him to stay away from my ‘Diamonds.’” (A “Diamond” is Amway nomenclature for a top earner.)
“Now, just a minute,” my translator said. “Has Doug Wead contacted one of your Diamonds?Name one?”
“Well,” the Amway leader said, “I can’t say.”
“Okay, so settle down.He is here to speak for a XanGo corporate function in St. Petersburg and he has to meet with some of the parents of children who attend his school.(I help run a private Christian boarding school in Oregon.) And he has to settle old business accounts but he is only meeting with people who have asked to see him and need to see him.And that’s all. Who told you he was contacting Amway leaders?”
“Well,” the man allegedly replied.“Someone from the company called me to warn me.”
“Well, they are wrong.Mr. Wead has not initiated contact with a single Amway distributor, Diamond or otherwise.”
Of course, that was not the complete story. The fact is that I had met with one Amway leader, at his initiative, and afterward, when all the Amway leaders were called and warned not to meet with me, “the phone started ringing off the hook.”Diamonds wanted to meet me for dinner, for lunch, for breakfast, for in between.Their curiosity was insatiable. Why did I go to XanGo? Is Amway going retail? Are they dumping expired products from Malaysia on the Russian black market? Why are they requiring loyalty tests? Are they going to end systems income? Are they trying to change the laws in Russia to outlaw systems? How will we live or make any money without it?How can you build the business without functions and cd’s?
Now, here is where it gets really funny.I can’t speak Russian.I don’t even know how to spell the names of any of these people.I don’t have their phone numbers or addresses. In all my years I have never taken business cards or collected names or built a mailing list. Why would I? These are Amway leaders whom I respect. They invite me onto their stage, why would I want to hurt their businesses?I had my own reasons for getting into XanGo.(See: Why I Chose XanGo.)
In Moscow, later in the week, when I met with one of the parents from the Christian school in Oregon he laughed about it all, “Well, well, you are causing quite a fuss.I am getting all kinds of phone calls from Amway leaders saying that their security people are following you and they are taking pictures.Anyone who gets their picture taken with Doug Wead is in danger of getting kicked out of Amway.”We both suddenly looked to the restaurant window where a student with a back pack held up his cell phone.Making a call or taking a picture? And then we both made ugly faces and laughed.
On my trip to Russia I had requested only one meeting with an Amway leader and that was with Natasha Yena, a wonderful person with great networking skills. My purpose for meeting her was to set the ground rules on what I should say or not say or how I should act as a new XanGo distributor.Of course, I didn’t need her permission or her suggestions.I wanted them.I know very well how hard it is to build a network. And I had a lot of fans in Russia.I had, and still have, no intention of trying to recruit Diamonds. If there are any more of you out there trying to call just hold your horses.I have no interest in taking you from Amway. If you are making money and are happy, just stay where you are.
On the last night I sat in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Moscow, talking with a former Diamond, who had called me and asked to meet with me.His ex-wife was still in Amway and according to him the company was now threatening her income. How would she and their children survive?During the meeting he got an anxious telephone call. “We know you are meeting with Doug Wead right at this moment in the lobby of the Marriott hotel.”
But he interrupted the threatening caller, “I’m not in Amway,” he retorted angrily, “Talk to my ex-wife.” And then he hung up on them.At least, that is how it was all explained to me in translation, this happening right in front of me.
We all paused to consider the irony of the moment and had a big laugh. He and my translator explained that they had all been through this before during the Soviet era.It was what often happened to ordinary citizens in those days.Threatening people was common. But it was amusing to see it acted out again in Russia with associates of an American corporation calling itself Amway. (The American Way.)
When I returned to the UnitedState I spoke to a very kind and reasonable man from the American Amway Corporation. He has been with them for years and he assured me that he has never seen such things.“Amway doesn’t follow people.” And he promised to look into it.
Meanwhile, I resolved to forget the whole thing.Who wants trouble? In the last 30 days I received only a few random communications from Russia and not necessarily from top leaders. And then?
Once again I started getting calls from Diamonds, this time from friends who were warning me.One note said that, “reprisals have begun.”What did that mean?
And finally late last night a warning call from Russia. An Amway Diamond had talked to my friend. “Is it true,” the Diamond had asked, “Is Doug Wead speaking at a XanGo event in Astana, Kazakhstan on December 15, 2009?”
“I’m not sure,” my friend hesitated. By the way, XanGo is perfectly legal in Kazakhstan and they have a large group there.Amway is not legal in that country, although they have tens of thousands involved. And then the Diamond said to my friend, “If Doug Wead comes to Astana we will have to take protective measures.”
Now, what would that mean, I wondered? And then I was told a chilling story.Attila Gidofalvi, a leading distributor in the Forever Living Company, had just visited Kazakhstan.Attila, like me, was also a former Amway distributor. And his company, Forever Living, like XanGo, is also legal in Kazakhstan. But Attila, I was told, the man who is called the father of Amway in Russia, the man who once had 122 diamonds, including Natasha, was accosted and beaten in Kazakhstan.Could this be true?
Once more, the story was just too unbelievable for me to fathom. But this afternoon I worked up the energy to track down Attila himself and eventually found him.I put him on speaker phone and brought in a witness to hear his story. He said he was attacked on a train by some people identifying themselves as Amway distributors. They beat him badly. Then they threatened to kill him if he returned to their country. When the train arrived at its destination he and his traveling companion reported it to the police but his assailants were gone.
I was told by my caller to hire bodyguards, and good ones, when I visit Russia next week.It will be part of an around the world trip. And yes, I will be stopping by Astana, Kazakhstan, a great city, in a great country. But why would I need bodyguards to protect me from people I love?
It has been my pleasure to work with Amway on many levels for 35 years. Most of them are great people, who have done great things. When I worked in the White House years ago I proudly arranged for several of their leaders to sit next to the President at events I moderated, knowing that they would give him good and sound advice. At my urging and nomination, one was appointed to a Presidential Commission.
But the great leaders I worked with are retired. And I know that big corporations sometimes delegate their “problems” to public relations firms, who hire former police and intelligence people to solve especially knotty challenges.(See an exaggerated, Hollywood version of this in the recent movie Duplicity.) And sometimes these projects get out of hand, as in “We’ll take care of this, just leave it to us. And don’t ask questions.” And sometimes it may result in “a beating.” And sometimes things get set into motion that cannot be called back.
So just for the record, I am making this public, so that if I should be found in my hotel room in Moscow with a heart attack or found unconscious on the streets of Astana after an apparent random mugging, you won’t blame it on Russia or Kazakhstan. It is probably someone’s version of “public relations.” (Imagine actually having to pay money for that sort of thing?)Or maybe it is a case of some bad apples in a company culture that has so much power that it is getting a little out of control, and has lost its way, and its values, and its purpose and has made the dollar more important than the lives of its own people.
Hopefully, this all has a simple explanation. If not, let me state the obvious, if think you have to hire ex-police and spies to follow and photograph and intimidate your own people to keep them from leaving your company, if you think you have to track your competitors and threaten to harm them, you just may have already lost the war.And you misunderstand your own leadership, who were promised that they could be “Independent Business Owners” not employees who must take loyalty tests and who are now arbitrarily audited by corporate chosen “vendors”, who are sometimes their very own crossline rivals, competing for the same money.
Hopefully, this sort of thing won’t be repeated when I return to Russia. If it is, I will be sure to keep you informed, for my own protection, of course, and for the sake of my five children and for the public record. And then, also, to keep those of you who are students of “public relations” up to date on the latest techniques – American style.Who knows? Maybe this sort of thing works and society doesn’t really care.
I have been so impressed by all the corporate staff and owners from MonaVie.I have spoken many times about Dallin Larsen and his character based leadership, but I have not shared as much on Randy Larsen and Henry Marsh. All play key roles in making MonaVie the innovative network marketing company that it is. Today, I will share more about Henry Marsh. I recently had an all day meeting in Utah and afterwards was invited by Henry Marsh to the Utah Jazz game.I love the game of basketball so I quickly said yes and boy what a night it was.
Henry Marsh is one of the quickest witted people that I know.He has a knack for breaking the ice in tense situation and a competitor’s instincts to win.Henry was a world class steeplechase athlete that held a world record for over 20 years.Henry drove me to the game in a Tesla, an all-electric car.The acceleration on the Tesla was amazing! As we were driving to the game, we talked about his experiences working with Franklin/Covey.I have enjoyed all of Hyrum Smith’s and the Covey’s father and son books. It was clear that Henry was a true student of their work and not surprisingly the principles have produced so much success in his life. The car ride alone would have been worth the trip to Utah, but what occurred at the stadium expanded my vision.
A buffet awaited us when we entered the stadium with incredible chef prepared dishes.Plus Henry literally had the best seats in the entire stadium!First row at half court were the seats, right behind the public address announcer.I could not believe the intensity of the game from this vantage point. Every player from both sides was close enough to reach out and touch when they were checking in.I studied the players, studied the players and realized again that success is success is success.I recently read a book from John Wooden and he said there are three things to win as a basketball coach.
1. Have the best talent
2. Teach team over self
3. Keep it simple and execute
Utah won the game by employing these three principles. In fact, leaders win in any field by employing these three principles.
1. Develop the best leaders
2. Teach team over self
3. Keep it simple and execute.
Leadership requires discipline and liberty requires vigilance.I thought to myself many times that night, I am enjoying the blessing from developing my personal leadership. Isn’t it time that you Launch your Leadership Revolution to enjoy some of the blessings?Henry Marsh has succeeded in life because he focuses on the big picture and doesn’t take himself too seriously.MonaVie Team focuses on developing the best leaders, teaching Team over self, and keeping it simple to execute the play.Henry Marsh added another learning experience to my life and I thank him profusely.God Bless, Orrin Woodward
Aaron Russo was an American Patriot and producer of several top rated Hollywood films. With titles like Trading Places, Wise Guys and The Rose, Aaron had plenty to be proud of in his life. What is unique about Mr. Russo is that he didn’t rest on his press clippings, but continued to learn and grow.He saw first hand the reductions in freedoms as America drifted from a land of freedom to a land of fascism.Aaron didn’t sit around waiting for someone else to do something, but got involved and made a difference. The last movie that he made was called America: Freedom to Fascism and should be watched by every concerned citizen in America and the world.
The Bible states, “The Truth will set you free.”All Americans should seek the truth. Why are we losing more of our inalienable rights every year? Why are our taxes so high that it cripples Americans ability to get ahead or competed as entrepreneurs and business people? Why are there so many big businesses that get special deals with the government creating monopolies instead of free enterprise competition?Isn’t our government still for the people and by the people or did it change without notification? Why is there a Federal Reserve and if truly needed, why not have it audited yearly to ensure it works for our government; not our government for it?
The middle class is getting squeezed of its freedoms, resources, and its very existence.I don’t care if you are a Democrat or a Republican; if you are paying taxes, you are under duress.Taxes go up, government debt goes up, value of the dollar goes down, and our opportunities go down.I have read many books on the Founders of America and I can assure you this is not what they had in mind.Watch Aaron’s last movie and ponder what he has to say.But don’t stop there, read the source material for yourself.Stop taking your information from mainstream media in sound-bites!YOU are better than that and can think for yourself. Please share your thoughts after watching.I know it is an almost 2 hour movie, but isn’t it strange that we will watch a sports match, an entertaining movie, our children’s events and think nothing of the two hours? But educating yourself on your American freedoms for two hours is too much to ask?We have sacrificed thinking for the proverbial sound-bite summation. It is time to WAKE UP!

Here is a funny video of Orrin Woodward sharing the qualities that it takes to build a big MonaVie Team. Also, check out Orrin Woodward on MySpace. Decide to be a finisher in a society of starters!
Going Black Diamond in MonaVie takes dedication, direction, and dreams. I have had the opportunity to see many people go from zero to large communities of leaders through perseverance. Some of the people that you are sure are going to do it, will choose to go in another direction. But some of the people who seem to have too many challenges, will choose to rise above their challenges and become champions and leaders of people! You do not control anyone else's choices on your team, but you do have control over your choices. Make your decision to win and then follow through when the emotion of the moment of decision is gone. That is what character and integrity are about. I made a commitment to God, Laurie and the MonaVie Team to go to one million people and that is what I intend to do. I cannot make that choice for you, but if you want to Have Fun, Make Money and Make a Difference then the MonaVieTeam is the place for you! Enjoy the video from the MonaVie Anaheim Regional. God Bless, Orrin Woodward
Jack and Effie Reid were one of the best speakers in Dexter Yager's Amway organization. Now they are building a large and profitable MonaVie business. Here is an article from Orrin Woodward's site.
I did an earlier post on the Reid's going Ruby, but now they have accomplished the Emerald level! Jack & Effie Reid have set the goal, done the work and now are reaping the benefits! The average emerald in MonaVie makes over $159,000 per year. We are very proud of this couple for dreaming a big dream and backing it up with commitment. The Reid’s secret to their fast success is an incredible attitude and enthusiasm for life. The living legends formerly with Amway/Quixtar had fallen on hard times in their former business. Instead of blaming others or making excuses, they left Amway and started focusing on their future with MonaVie Team.Keep an eye on this couple because they combine great experience with a great perspective!
Another leader on fire is my wife Laurie.I have never seen her more excited!Laurie is contacting people and building customer volume and signing up distributors. We did a house plan on Tuesday night in Port St. Lucie and with just a couple of new distributors had nineteen people in the room. There were ten new people there - six people signed up that night and took first night materials and the other four committed to hold their spot and wanted to listen to the materials. The follow through process is going well and it looks like 100% of the new people are getting started.People love the MonaVie product, love the financial plan, and love the Team community.Win-Win-Win!The leaders in the room have committed to starting a bi-monthly open meeting in the Stuart, Florida area.
To sum up, it looks like anyone who is out there sharing the MonaVie Team plan consistently is producing results. Who doesn’t want to improve their health, improve their finances, and improve their relationships? What are you doing to be part of the MonaVie Team’s million people?God Bless, Orrin Woodward
Here is an article from Orrin Woodward's blog on the first MonaVie Black Diamonds Mark and Tami Crawford. Congratulations to Mark and Tami for leading the way in Canada!
The Canadian Team is exploding as we speak.I mentioned in an earlier post the explosive growth of Claude and Lana Hamilton.Today I would like to congratulate Mark and Tami Crawford for reaching the prestigious Black Diamond level in MonaVie.These two are veterans of the MLM industry and have hit all time record highs in income and influence over the last few months. The average Black Diamond income is over 1.5 million per year. The Crawford’s are some of the best teachers on the Team as they share from their years of experience on how to build and nurture growing communities. It has been said that genius is taking the complex and making it simple and based upon that definition, I believe that Mark and Tami are geniuses in the field of network marketing. They have the biggest Canadian organization on the Team in and perhaps the biggest community of any MLM in Canada. The sky is the limit for this couple as their dreams far outweigh their current reality. When your dreams are bigger than your reality, you are in a growth cycle. The Team is excited about reaching 1 million people and the Canadians are committed to play a big part in that million.Maybe the Canadians will reach a million by themselves and propel the Team into multi-millions!The sky is the limit when you have leadership.God Bless, Orrin Woodward
One of the most enjoyable things to do when showing the MonaVie plan is to share the MonaVie Income Disclosure Statement (IDS).The fairness of Dallin Larsen and MonaVie is why a data sheet like this is possible.MonaVie pays out 50% of the revenue, period. This eliminates all the breakage that other MLM companies use to give less money to the distributors who are doing the work.By guaranteeing a 50% payout, the performers in the MonaVie business are the best compensated in the industry.
Let’s compare the MonaVie IDS from 2007 with the MonaVie IDS from the first half on 2008.Nothing will prove the velocity of the MonaVie business as much as studying the amount of new levels being hit in just 6 months.Remember, MonaVie did not ship its first product until January of 2005.The amount of people making bonuses and the amount of the bonuses is revolutionary in the MLM industry. No company has ever built as fast or as profitable.Dallin Larsen is lining up new products and an aggressive international expansion.Since the marketing plan is the same in each country, the international expansion will reward the leaders who build communities across the world.Starting someone in Japan is rewarded just like you started your neighbor down the street.MonaVie is the first company who treats distributors like full partners in their business plans and I am proud to be working with Dallin Larsen.

You can study these numbers all day.To be a leader in the MLM industry, it takes a big dream, servant’s heart, and a willingness to grow.MonaVie ensures that you get paid for going through the development process.MonaVie is a company that in less than 4 years is paying 51 people at least $667,352.26 of those people are receiving $1,547,510 or more every year. All of this in less than 4 years!?!With a world class product, a world class compensation plan, a world class corporate leadership team, a world class training organization, and a world class international strategy – I am seeing something really big in the future!
I have pledged my life to building leaders and teaching them how to build communities of leaders for long term results. When I get a no, I convert them into customers of MonaVie. But my number one objective is to teach people the principles of residual income.I do this by teaching them the difference between Barge working and Bridge building. You control your own destiny. Are you Barge working or BridgeBuilding in your life? The choice you make will make all the difference.God Bless, Orrin Woodward
For the first time in my networking career, I have a reward for building internationally. The way MonaVie builds a seamless organization between countries is one of its greatest competitive advantages – just behind the leadership of Dallin Larsen. No matter what country you join MonaVie in – you are part of the global MonaVie business. This means someone in your group can have a friend in Brazil, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Singapore, etc. and they go right into your binary tree. All the volume adds up just as if they were sponsored down the street from you.Now you can have thousands of people from countries around the world in your groups and you are receiving bonuses just like they are in your home country. How is this so revolutionary you ask?
My experiences in international networking were much different.Every country that I joined had to be a separate business. You could help an organization explode overseas and bring millions into the company and not receive a penny in compensation because it is all down one leg. This is terrible for the distributors, but great for the company – designed in breakage.Dallin Larsen designed his MonaVie business to be win-win for both the distributors and the company. When you invest your time, money, and wisdom to build overseas markets, you will be rewarded just like you are in your home market.I want to personally thank Dallin Larsen for applying honor, respect, and the golden rule to all of his business dealings with distributors.MonaVie is expanding into your market, while still exploding their home market by doing it right!Get ready for a $20 billion dollar company. What part are you playing in the networking revolution?God Bless, Orrin Woodward
Well dear reader, you are no doubt already aware of the goings-on at Quixtar. Board members resigning, lawsuits, temporary restraining orders and so on. Rather than linking you to what is already becoming repetitive, we thought that you - discerning readers that you are - would be most interested in the truth about it all.
It has come to our attention that former IBOAI Board Member, Chuck Goetschel has posted on the freetheibo blog. May we suggest you read this most informative post and draw your own conclusions? It is worth the read.
We are not attorneys and we've heard a lot of stuff in the papers and on the blogosphere; but everyone knows that the Quixtar products are overpriced, making them impossible to retail. We've read the lawsuit, and it's clear that the leaders with integrity, Orrin Woodward of Team included, have tried in vain for years, to fix the pricing issue by working internally with Quixtar but to no avail.
It's about to come to a head, and Quixtar certainly looks very foolish at this point. It appears they knew they were operating an illegal pyramid (Amway England), but were prepared to keep doing so, until a few brave men stood up to them.
It appears that Quixtar believed that if they cut off the leaders at the knees, the rest would go quietly into the night. They couldn't have expected what has caught them clearly by surprise...that there are men and women in this world who are guided, not by the love of money, but rather, by truth...and they are not about to go quietly. Watch the video at this link to station WOODTV, Grand Rapids.
There are men and women whose core is about honesty and integrity; who when they see a wrong, call it a wrong. Bravo Mr. Goetschel! Bravo Mr. Woodward! Thank you for being Men.
To all our readers in Michigan: see you at the Kent County Corthouse on Wednesday! Bring a friend and let's stand up to the tyranny of the elites!
Back on April 25th we reviewed an article written by leadership expert, John Maxwell (Permanent Link). The article laid out certain questions to consider in identifying potential leadership.Below is part two of that article which lays out the remaining 7 considerations. And, again, Orrin Woodwardand the core leadership of the Teamhave a check mark next to each quality.
I know of no one who can cast a vision like Orrin Woodward.Orrinis an expert in the field of Visioneering. He is masterful in creating vision with such high value for each individual that buying into that vision elicits commitment and passion to see its fulfillment. His willingness to take responsibility for every area needing improvement is limitless and he possesses the most admirable quality of giving the credit and recognition to others where Teamstrengths prevail. This is a man who finishes what he starts and leads people with the same level of commitment and determination.Of all the CEOs, business executives, heads of state, and any other high levels of leadership positions in the world today, Orrin’s level of EQ would have to rank in the top 1%.I’ve personally seen Orrin Woodwardconfront, handle, and resolve conflicts that would break not only most men, but would tear apart most companies and organizations. His people skills serve him and his Teamwell.Following Orrin Woodwardis made easy because his nature is so ‘others’ focused. He truly wants to help people become better in all areas of their life that they may feel worthy in themselves and feel the reward of living a life of significance. The results and success of Orrin Woodwardand the Teamspeaks for itself. This is a man who can get things done… and does… well.
Perhaps the greatest of all Orrin Woodward’s qualities is his commitment to develop and duplicate in others these qualities of leadership that they may, in turn, influence change in such a way as to affect and nurture change at a cultural level. This he has already begun to accomplish. The Law of Legacy is first and foremost on Orrin’s mind and his life purpose of adding value to the lives of others is honorable. Not many in the world today would put themselves on the frontline of criticism and public scrutiny to pursue a dream many have thought impossible.I’ve seen enough to know now, that:“If the dream is big enough, the facts don’t count.”
One of the benefits of real freedom is the time one can devote to read and research areas which interest and intrigue. Because of Orrin Woodward's example, I became an avid reader of American History. Although I make no claim that the following is an absolutely thorough treatment, it does make for some interesting reading - and hopefully will motivate the reader to do his or her own research. Thanks Orrin, for following your dream and giving others the chance to have a great life! 2007 is going to be a great year for the Team!
Look at a one dollar bill. The present design of a one dollar bill first came off the presses in 1957. This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. It is actually material. We've all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look.
If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States Treasury Seal. Although some claims have been made that the scales represent the need for a balanced budget, the Treasury Department has little to do with whether the budget is balanced, since that is actually handled by congress. The U.S. Treasury Department indicates that the balancing scales actually represent Justice. In the center, some people believe there is a carpenter's T-square, a tool used for an even cut. But that image is actually a chevron with 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies. Underneath is a key that is intended to represent a symbol of authority.
If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles. The two circles reflect the two sides of the Great Seal of the United States. Before the adjournment of the Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776, a committee was appointed to develop a seal for the United States. The committee was Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, three of the five men who had drafted the Declaration of Independence. They were merely the first committee, however. It took six years, the work of two additional committees and a total of 14 men before a final version of the Great Seal was approved. The final proposal, as accepted by Congress, was submitted on June 13, 1782, by Charles Thompson, Secretary of Congress. He brought together some of the recommendations of the three committees, their consultants, and artists.
If you look at the left hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. This pyramid was not a part of the proposals for the Great Seal until the third committee, and it was not suggested by Jefferson, Franklin, and Adams. Notice the face is lighted and the western side is dark. Although there is no "official" explanation for the shading, some interpret it as a reflection that our country was just beginning and had not begun to explore the West or decided what we could do for Western Civilization. (Yes, this was on some of the Founders' minds)
The Pyramid is un-capped, which may signify that our country was not yet finished. The unfinished state of the pyramid was intentional, and Charles Thompson, in his remarks to congress about the symbolism on the Great Seal, said the pyramid represented "Strength and Duration." Inside the capstone you have the all-seeing eye, and ancient symbol for divinity. Although Franklin's committee did not suggest a pyramid, it did originate the suggestion of the eye. However, the term "the all-seeing eye" was never officially used when describing it. The Franklin committee wanted the seal to include a reflection of divine providence and discussed a variety of themes including the Children of Israel in the Wilderness.
"IN GOD WE TRUST" is prominant on this currency. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, that motto started being used on paper money in 1957. It was in use on coins long before that. The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, "God has favored our undertaking." It was Franklin's belief that one man couldn't do it alone, but a group of men with the help of God could do anything. The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, "a new order has begun." At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776.
Look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully. It is found at every National Cemetery in the United States. It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery, and is the centerpiece of most hero's monuments. On the Great Seal, the eagle faces the talon holding the olive branch. The eagle on The Presidential Seal faced in the opposite direction-toward the talon holding the arrows until 1945, when Harry Truman had it redesigned to face the olive branch as well.
No one knows for certain what the symbols mean. But although there is no explanation of the imagery of the eagle in the official records, most historical references to the bald eagle indicate that it represents something of uniquely American origin. One of the original design proposals for the Great Seal featured a small crested white eagle, which is not uniquely American, but this was later changed to the uniquely American Bald Eagle. An unsupported interpretation of the inclusion of the Bald Eagle is that it could also represent victory and independence, because the eagle is not afraid of a storm, is strong and smart enough to soar above it, and wears no material crown.
Also, notice the shield is unsupported. Charles Thompson said it denoted that the United States of America ought to rely on their own virtue. The shield consists of red and white stripes with a blue bar above that represents Congress. The colors are taken from the American flag and officially the red represents hardiness and valor, the white represents purity and innocence, and the blue, vigilance, perseverance, and justice. In the Eagle's beak you will read, "E PLURIBUS UNUM", meaning "Out of many, One" from which many infer "one nation from many people."
Above the Eagle, we find thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one. Notice that the Eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in his talons. The official meaning is that the olive branch and the arrows "denote the power of peace and war." As noted previously, the design shows the eagle facing the olive branch. This was the opposite of the the Presidential Seal, which showed the eagle facing the arrows, until President Harry Truman had it redesigned to face the olive branch in 1945.
Some feel that the number 13 is an unlucky number. It is unusual to find a room numbered 13, or hotels or motels with a 13th floor. But the significance of the number 13 in U.S. history is very strong. The number 13 as used on many U.S. symbols (the stripes on the flag, steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle, 13 plumes of feathers on each of the Eagle's wings, 13 bars on the shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and 13 arrows) all represent the beginning of our country, as established by the thirteen colonies. But it should also remind us of the importance of the "13th Amendment". And you can, and should, be reminded of the history of this country each time you look at a one dollar bill.
Why not share this information with your family and loved ones? Give them an appreciation for the history of this country found on our most common form of currency. Although symbols are open to many interpretations, we believe the above information offers some historical insight (and some undocumented perceptions) about the design and meaning of some of the images on the one dollar bill. The explanations and interpretations that appear below were verified by the Truth or Fiction website, and predominantly (except where noted otherwise) reflect the official interpretations of the United States Treasury Department and the United States Department of State, the official keeper of the United States Seal. Have a great 2007!
Because the internet has changed EVERYTHING and if you don't understand why or how, you're likely to become extremely disappointed!
Quoting Robert D. Hof in the June 20th edition of Business Week, the interet is "a big, hairy, monstrous organism. The nearly one billion people online world-wide - along with their shared knowledge, social contacts, online reputations, computing power and more - are rapidlybecoming a collective force of unprecedented power. For the first time in human history, mass cooperation across time and space is suddenly economical."
This "peer power presents difficult challenges for anybody invested in the status quo. Corporations, those citadels of command-and-control, may be in for the biggest jolt. Increasingly, they will have to contend with ad hoc groups (like the Team) of customers who have the power to join forces online to get what they want."
"Its the democratization of industry" says C.K. Prahalad, a University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business professor and co-author of the 2004 book, The Future of Competition: Co-Creating Unique Value With Customers. "We are seeing the emergence of an economy of the people, by the people, for the people"
